The Blackberry Spritz

Prep time: 10 minutes

Yields: One serving

Author: Ireland Lindsay

Ingredients:

  • 6 blackberries

  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar

  • 1 tablespoon loose earl grey tea

  • 1.5oz hot water

  • Club soda, to finish

  • 1 oz gin, optionally

  • A splash of lemon juice

  • Lemon slice, to garnish

Special Equipment:

  • A mesh strainer

  • A muddler

FOR THE SPRITZ:

START by muddling the blackberries, sugar, and loose leaf tea together until natural juices are released and begin to become aromatic. Pour over 1.5oz of hot water, set aside to let steep for 3-5 minutes depending on personal strength preferences- the longer the steep the stronger the flavor. After 3-5 minutes has passed, pour into a different glass to let cool down slightly.

ONCE cooled, strain over ice, add gin at this point if using, and stir. Transfer to a glass of choice and top off with club soda and a squeeze of lemon juice for bright, contrasting flavors. Finish with a thin lemon slice, or rind, as garnish.
